Grizdale Viewing Deck, Lake District, England_
Architect: Benjamin Hale
The brief asked for a viewing deck/tower above one of three selected sites located in the Grizedale woodland area of the Peak District, England. The scheme proposes a hanging structure with a seated platform beneath that allows the user unobstructed views of the Northern Peaks aswell as a closer interaction level with the natural enviroment below.
The space contains an office and a set of toilets (male & female) with a teaching space situated above the drop down deck. The project utilises Serbian spruce planks that are placed at special interlocking sections that prevent water intrusion at the seams, whilst the viewing deck is hung from the above structure using a mix of bespoke serbian spruce planks and glulam. The space is open all day to the public with the office being locked a certain hours.
